ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT.

Last Updated: November 20, 2025

The United Black Agenda (“UBA”) is committed to ensuring that our website, ubanj.org, is accessible to all individuals, including people with disabilities. We strive to provide a digital experience where every visitor can navigate, engage with, and benefit from our content with equal ease and dignity.

What Web Accessibility Means

An accessible website allows visitors with disabilities to browse and interact with the site using assistive technologies or adaptive tools. This includes compatibility with screen readers, keyboard navigation, voice recognition software, and other accessibility support systems. Our goal is to ensure that all users, regardless of ability, can enjoy a seamless and inclusive online experience.

Accessibility Adjustments on This Site

We have adapted this website in accordance with WCAG 2.1 guidelines and aim to maintain compliance at the AA level. Our accessibility efforts include:

  • Using automated accessibility tools to identify and address potential issues

  • Setting the primary site language for proper screen reader interpretation

  • Structuring page content in a clear and logical order

  • Implementing consistent heading hierarchies across all pages

  • Providing alternative text for all meaningful images

  • Ensuring color combinations meet required contrast ratios

  • Reducing or eliminating excessive motion and animations

  • Making all videos, audio, and documents accessible whenever possible

These adjustments are part of our ongoing commitment to improving accessibility and usability for all visitors.

Declaration of Partial Compliance

Some pages on our website include third-party content or embedded tools (e.g., donation processors, ticketing systems, or embedded videos) that are not fully managed or controlled by UBA.

For these pages, we declare partial compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA due to third-party limitations.

Accessibility in Our Organization

The United Black Agenda is committed to ensuring equitable access not only on our website but also in all physical locations where we conduct meetings, events, and community engagement activities. We strive to make our in-person environments welcoming, inclusive, and accessible to all visitors, staff, and partners.

Our current accessibility arrangements include:

  • Accessible Entrances: All event venues and office meeting spaces we utilize provide wheelchair-accessible entrances with ramps or level pathways.

  • Elevators & Interior Mobility: Buildings used for UBA meetings or programs include elevator access to all public floors, wide hallways, and unobstructed pathways that allow mobility device users to navigate comfortably.

  • Accessible Restrooms: We ensure that all venues we select offer ADA-compliant restrooms equipped with grab bars, accessible sinks, and sufficient turning space for mobility devices.

  • Reserved Parking: When hosting in-person events, we ensure that ADA-accessible parking spaces are available near the main entry for individuals with disabilities.

  • Signage & Wayfinding: Clear directional signage is used at events to guide guests to restrooms, elevators, entrances, exits, and any designated accessibility services.

  • Seating Accommodations: Events include reserved seating areas for individuals who may require additional space, wheelchair positions, seating closer to presenters, or low-sensory seating options.

  • Assistive Listening Devices: Upon request and availability, UBA provides or arranges access to assistive listening devices or amplified audio for programs that include speeches, presentations, or trainings.

  • Service Animals Welcome: All venues we work with welcome service animals trained to perform tasks for individuals with disabilities.

  • ASL Interpretation & Captioning (Upon Request and Availability): For public events, meetings, or major announcements, UBA can provide American Sign Language interpretation or real-time captioning when requested in advance.

  • Emergency Evacuation Support: Staff and event hosts are trained to identify evacuation routes accessible for people with mobility disabilities and to support visitors during emergency procedures.

These arrangements reflect our ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusion across all aspects of our work. We continually review and improve our physical accessibility practices based on community needs and feedback.
